The Poor Just Gets Poorer



Rising food prices have forced poor Haitians to depend on dirt cookies—a mixture of salt, vegetable shortening, and yellow mud from the country's plateau—for sustenance.


Oil prices (keep reading) has gone up so much that the cost of fertilization, transporation, and irrigation makes grain literally non-affordable. Haitians are so poor that dirt is to be used as a main ingredient in meals served 3x a day.
