A 30-50m asteroid passed by Earth last night at 8.82km/sec. Its altitude was only about 2x the distance of our satellites. That's ridiculously close, dude. If it had been just a few miles closer, A LOT of people would have died.
Apparently, if you were looking in the right direction at the right time, it would have been so bright that you could see it through clouds.
