Happiness: Experiences vs Possessions



Elizabeth Landau wrote a good 20/20-ish piece on CNN about what makes us happier: spending money on possessions VS experiences.

The study took place at San Francisco State, surveying 154 students around the age of 25. Turns out, experiences won.

"
That's in part because the initial joy of acquiring a new object, such as a new car, fades over time as people become accustomed to seeing it every day, experts said. Experiences, on the other hand, continue to provide happiness through memories long after the event occurred."

So drop that belt, go get yourself some tickets at the Fillmore.
