The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Some people appreciate cover art, some people enjoy eating the feet of a pig. I even know someone who enjoys a movie's opening credits. Lately, I've been noticing that editors and producers of movie trailers usually go unnoticed. And it's a shame because these are the expensive moneymakers for a film. It's a major factor in creating hype around a flick. My name is Calvin, and I appreciate a really good trailer.
Like making a movie itself, there is a "textbook" of formulas a trailer cutter has to follow. This is usually likely for a studio movie. But not for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The trailer starts with one sentence of voice over and ends with one sentence of dialogue. The rest is all footage. This must have come by request of David Fincher to showcase the cinematography- and with good reason. It's beautifully shot.
And talk about hype. Besides the awesome trailer, look at some facts on this movie: directed by David Fincher (enough said, right?- and no, I'm not thinking David Lynch), written by Eric Roth (umm, Forrest Gump!?), starring Brad Pitt and Ms. Cate Blanchett (you all know how I feel about her), $150 million budget, out Christmas Day.
