No more dining woes
I’ve found an instant solution to fix your “I always eat at the same place” blues. If you’ve watched Hitch, browsed Craigslist, read Heat, or just watched the Food Network, you know that there’s these 8-15 course meals that are served outside of restaurants. It’s an awesome idea.
So, most of these things are very intimate. They’re held in trailers, homes of personal chefs, small recreation rooms, etc. More importantly, they’re extremely secretive and popular. Oxymoron, huh? Not a lot of these sessions are held, and each one only hosts about 40-50 people. Waiting lists are MONTHS, and that’s if you even know the secret to get on the list.
I’m talking about Sub-Culture Dining. That’s the event the Dissident Chef puts together every week here in San Francisco. Other programs like this run in all cities, but in ours, it’s the Dissident Chef. www.thescdsf.com
How it works: you have to have a referral. Not just any person can book a reservation. You have to know someone who has attended this before, get a code from them, and enter it on the site. Once you get a reservation confirmation, that’s it. They won’t tell you where the venue is usually until the day of. Usually it’s an 8-course meal paired with wine, and it lasts for NEARLY 6 HOURS. Very casual- you can walk the kitchen, talk to the waiters, chefs, etc.
You can’t take pictures of the guests or chefs. Pictures of the kitchen and food is permissible. The menu changes EVERY night, so if I told you I love the crab soup, you won’t ever be able to taste it again.
I know someone going to tomorrow’s event, so I’ll get a code from them. Tomorrow’s event is IN A TREEHOUSE in Noe Valley. Isn’t that awesome?
