85% of my readers may be gangster rappers, but anyone can appreciate great folk. Duffy is folk, but she's also Top 40. That makes her "pop".
So what? Pop rocks. There is always a great songwriter behind a Top 40 hit. Deny it all you want, but s/he has to write a song that the majority of average song listeners in the world will enjoy- can play at the Gap, A-Life, Bloomy's, and your local dental office. Pop songwriting, and big pimpin', ain't easy.
